Where I’m From

About the Poem

Age: 11
5A Scuola Primaria Marco Polo—S. Angelo a Lecore

I’m from an abstract portrait
drawn in blunt pencils.
I’m from a life
painted in colours
mixed on the palette.
I’m from the smell
of yellow tulips’ pollen,
from the scent of raspberries
on a fruit cake.
I’m from the music
accompanying my pirouettes
when I go to my dance class.
I’m from my plaster-pointed dancer shoes
I can’t wait to wear.
I’m from my pets’ affection
they live in my home garden.
I’m from the good tasting
chocolate biscuits
my mother cooks,
from the cracks of lime flavoured chips
breaking the stillness
of my empty room.
