Where I’m From

About the Poem

Age: 11
5A Scuola Primaria Marco Polo – Sant’Angelo a Lecore

I’m from the coldness of winter.
I’m from the wind,
blowing
on the branches of the trees.
I’m from the fresh scent of soap
coming out of the washing machine.
I’m from the smell
of my grandfather’s car:
its engine burns too much oil.
I’m from the chirp
of little birds
as I wake up,
from the sweet tune
of my pipe
when I play
Christmas songs.
I’m from
the hearty embrace
of my family,
from my friends’ smiles and love.
I’m from a dish of lasagna,
tasting better and better
every Sunday.
